REED North-East editors David Klausner and Mark Chambers took part in the annual ‘Meeting in the Middle’ Conference, held 8-9 April 2018 at Longwood University in Virginia, hosted by Professors Larissa Tracy and Stephen Isaac.

Dr. Klausner’s plenary on 9th April was entitled ‘Stage Management for a Crucifixion’, whilst Dr. Chambers spoke on ‘Serpents, Stags and Stagecraft: An Introduction to the Records of Early English Drama’ on 8th April. The two also awarded the annual Abels-Johnson Award for Excellence to Chelsey Collins of Mississippi University, for her paper on ‘”A Huge Eel Encircled his Loins and Cinched Tightly”: Sexual Scenes and Social Conflict in Medieval Ireland’.

The paper sessions were followed by a spirited student production of the Towneley Play of Herod, directed by Larissa Tracy. Below are some photo images from the event.
