The use and development of period costumes was vital to The Sacred and Profane. Not only would good costumes ensure a colourful and credible historical show, the process of designing and making some of the costumes helped us to understand better how such items might originally have been produced. By using period fabrics and pigments, we were able to think about how such costumes – some of them very heavy! – might enable people to move and dance in performance.
After developing costumes we moved into more intensive rehearsals.
