Our REED-NE colleague Dr Diana Wyatt will contribute a paper to this year’s Medieval English Theatre (METh) meeting which takes place in Murray Edwards College, Cambridge on 29 March. The title of Dr Wyatt’s paper will be: ‘”I’d have dressed for the occasion”: reflections on audience engagement with biblical plays’.
A brief abstract:
‘In accordance with this year’s METh conference theme, “Audiences”, this paper will use medieval examples from Beverley and Hull (using evidence from my research for REED: Yorkshire East Riding), as well as one modern one, the new Beverley Passion Play performed on Good Friday 2012, to explore the different ways people respond to biblical plays: are they spectators? witnesses? worshippers? – and how do we define the differences?’
