“Saturday 25 March 2017
Cultures of Performance:
a Celebration of the Work of Philip Butterworth
University of Glasgow
This year the Medieval English Theatre Meeting on Cultures of Performance will be hosted by Pamela M. King and Eila Williamson at the University of Glasgow, in the James Arnott Theatre, Gilmourhill, University of Glasgow, GLASGOW G12.
The conference day will divide roughly into two halves, the first offering a range of short papers looking at performance questions raised by individual case-studies, the second considering broader theoretical questions raised by the discussion of medieval playing and its conventions. Speakers include John Marshall (Bristol), Sarah Carpenter (Edinburgh), Thomas Pettit (Odense), and Katie Normington (Royal Holloway, University of London).
The annual Medieval English Theatre dinner will take place in a restaurant near the conference venue on the evening of Friday 24 March. The cost of dinner is not included in the registration fee, and individuals will be asked to meet their own bills. Please indicate on the registration form (see below) whether you wish to attend.
On the previous day (Friday 24 March) and in the same location there will be a Postgraduate and Early Career Symposium run by the Early English Drama and Performance Network (registration free but space limited): more information to follow.”
